The last 2 days have been really good. Kate seems to be adjusting to the the Trach quite well. The first 2 days......well..... not so pleasant. We had to keep her pretty sedated so she wouldn't irritate the site. She's finally been able to come off the sedation without fighting and pulling tubes. Bryan and I started the training course yesterday. We have eight 2-hour classes that we have to attend where we learn how to care for the Trach and all the equipment. It sounds overwhelming, but we have completed 2 of the classes and it hasn't been too bad. We hope to be able to finish by next week. On Tuesday, the surgeon who did the Tracheostomy, will come and change out the Trach and make sure everything looks good. From there, we should be able to talk about bringing her home. And believe me......we are so ready!
P.S. I will be posting some pictures next week when Kate is feeling a little better!

I am so glad Kate is adjusting well to the trach. I remember thinking a trach was so overwhelimg - and it is a big deal - but we had great teachers who helped us become very comfortable caring for and changing the trach. You guys will do a great job. :)
YAY BIG GIRL! I love the princess pull-ups (they sell them at Costco, in case you need more once you're home). Laney loves them - doesn't use 'em for the right reason sometimes, but loves 'em. I am so glad she doesn't need to be sedated anymore. Keep us posted & let me know what we can do to help. I have my slumber party stuff ready to go!!!
I love Kate's belly and thunder thighs!! I wanted a fat baby, but I didn't get one. Congrats on graduating!!! I hope you get feeling better sweetie!
Hi Marcae. It is so fun to find you in the blogging world. This is Nicole (Bingham) Funderburk. Our blog is funderburks.blogspot.com.
Wow!! What troopers you all are. So glad you're at peace and things are starting to look up. My cousin had a trach as long as I knew her. Sometimes it seems like a pain, but you'd rather have her home and developing with loving family and friends to surround her. Glad they've got Princess panties for little Kate. A girl's gotta feel like a princess at all times and I'm sure there are times that all she gets is a diaper. How cute that you are decking her out as much as you can. Love you guys and as always, you're in our thoughts and prayers!!
Yay for princess pull-ups. Sounds like things are going well so far with the trach and that you and Bryan are acing the classes!
Hopefully Kate will be home in no time.
she is so cute marcae and i am so glad she is responding so well to the trach. love you guys and you are amazing people
Debra told me about your blog months ago and I've been checking back every once in awhile to check up on Kate and your family! I've just got to say that you are awesome to keep this blog updated with all that is going on. Also, you are the best Mom Marcae, Kate is so lucky to have you as her mommy. I can't wait to see pics of your cute new baby girl coming soon! It's so fun to watch your family grow!
Give Kate a kiss for me, she is so sweet! I hope she can go home soon!
